The Light of Things

Last year some of the Longton Players spoke about creating an original short film. I wrote the script in April 2024 and spoke with Ben about what we could and couldn’t do with zero budget. We also spoke at length about what kind of story would be interesting to make and to tell.
The Light of Things tells the story of a young man whose mother has dementia. The strain of living with her unpredictability affects his own mental health and he starts to break down. A radio broadcast about the end of the world prompts Luke to evacuate with his mother. Is it all in his head and how will their story end?
We filmed the short in Penwortham and in the Lake District over three days (One in July, one in September and one in October). The edit was done in between filming and up until the cast and crew had a screening in early December. We recently screened the film at Longton VM Club and it’s now available to watch online here: https://youtu.be/C45FROfacAE?si=abqG_yW06Zgl6FJ4
